THIS WEEKEND'S MATCH ACTION
Yay! The Elite have done it again. Yes, this weekend Rub Dunn's Premier League XI invited Leuva Patida to Towles Fields for battle and it seems a good match was had. Having won the toss, Leuva were asked to bat, which turned out to be a good choice. Some fine bowling from Sid with his 5'fer and a couple for Malc Hood, and Leuva found themselves all out for 179 in the 44th over. The reply was clinical with good knocks from Sally Love (39), Dibs (46) and Flash (49) which enabled a steady cruise to victory in the 42nd over. Great work the Elite. A couple more of those and you'll be guaranteed a place in this Division next year.
The Two's traveled to Whetstone to face a team whose season had been fairly erratic thus far, but knowing that these were the games you had to win, a good start was important. Which, it turns out, we got. Penton broke through on his 3rd ball while Tom Shippo bowled three very tidy maidens to kick start a very good fielding session by BOTW. And it pretty good it was too. The home team were bowled out in the 41st over for just 131. Penton got his first 5'fer since God was a baby, Shippo Senior got a couple and we may even have seen this seasons first Champagne moment, as Ed E Stewart dived head first onto the pitch to attack a quick single and while still rolling fired the ball at the stumps and ran the fella out. Great work.
The second innings was, mostly, much less impressive. Custard came out to face the fairly quick Whetstone opener, but he was very wayward and Custard made hay while the sun tried to shine and fired off a very exciting 46, which included three 6's and five 4's. But that was pretty much all that happened. After Mark Russell (13) was caught of the tidy bowling of A. Quinn (who got a 6'fer), the wickets tumbled very quickly. And in the space of 13 overs, BOTWCC went from 63 for 1 to 82 all out. Shocking. Bloody shocking. We need to work on our shot selection guys, especially against a tidy bowler in his 60's whose probably been bowling for in excess of 40 years. He'll know what he's doing.
Next weekend, on Yank Day, the start of the turn-around. The First's travel to Wigston while the Two's are at home to Sapcote. |
CLUB CELEBRATION DAY - THE AFTERMATH
And what a good day it turned out to be. The weather was good, the food was good, the ale was in plentiful supply. What more could you ask for? A game of cricket? Hell, we even had one of those!
Burton's Youth XI had the audacity to offer challenge to the might and experience of the BOTWCC/SCRCC Oldies and the game was on.
In what promised to be an interesting encounter of these two opposite poles, sadly the match as a tad one-sided.
The Old's batted first and managed to knock off a useful 140 in their 25 over stint, largely courtesy of Steve Markley's contribution, but the Youth XI seemed undeterred by this extravagance and knocked them off in under 10 overs. A 50 each for Ali Love and Chris Langham. Although I should mention that Ali got 51 where Lanky only managed 50. Poor show.
Over all, the day was a good one. Many an old face met up with former cricketing colleagues of yesteryear and reminisced to their hearts content and everybody left happy.
Special thanks go to Geraldine and Graham Pratt, Tracey and Steve Neal and Sue and Phil Child for their input into running the event and ensuring it's success.
Photo's will be available on this site when my brother sends them to me. By Christmas I'm guessing. |
