Twycross v BOTWCC 1st XI
Saturday 12th August 2006 - Twycross
Stand-in skipper/ vice captain Paul Blount led a strong First XI to a fantastic victory against arguably the strongest team in the entire Leicestershire Senior League.
Twycross, who hadn't lost a game all season, only needed to beat Burton to be crowned as League Champions and head for the dizzy heights of the Premier League, but Flash and his boys had other ideas.
Burton had won the toss and Flash put the home team in to bat. A good decision, as it turned out.
Twycross had struggled to deal with the Burton attack and runs were proving hard to come by. Notable performances were contributions from Graeme Peck and Rob Dunn who bowled 18 and 13 overs respectively and gave very little away. Even after a run spurt in the last 10 overs of the innings, Twycross were restricted to a below-par 176 for 5.
With Burton now chasing a target well within their bounds, the club's batting attack then did their part, especially Gary Moore who knocked a superb 77 runs and left the finishing off to two of the club's younger talents, Mark Dipple and Pete Roberts, who both finished in their twenties not out.
With a final tally of 177 for 4, Burton had taken their best scalp of the season and kept alive any hopes of promotion. Here's hoping the teams above would help us out a bit.
Well done to Paul Blount and the rest of the club's elite.
Next week a home match against Broughton Astley.
