THE BOTWCC COTSWOLD TOUR 2006

Here is the itinerary for this years Cotswold Tour...Hook Norton Brewery - COOL!

Match 1 - BOTWCC v Hook Norton - Sunday 28th May 06

SUNDAY MATCH CALLED OFF

Meet at Pear Tree Inn in Hook Norton at 11.30am. It is suggested that you get there early as the pubs get quite crowded, especially on bank holiday weekends. Food will be available & orders will be taken on arrival. Meals include traditional sunday lunch, steak and ale pie, ham and eggs, lasagne, sandwiches and a variety of kiddies meals. There is also a play area for the offspring to keep them out of your hair.

Sunday Evening

On Sunday evening meet at the Chequers Pub which is near to the Blue Boar. Entertainment is to be provided by Club President(?) Barry Moore who will enliven our nights with his 2006 repertoire of naff jokes, most of which involve his mate Paddy.

A CHURCH TYPE THINGMatch 2 - BOTWCC v Great Tew - Monday 29th May 06 - 2.30pm Start

Meet at the Falklands Arms Pub beforehand, and don't mention Goose Green or The General Belgrano. (Also an accidental lapse in concentration and a mention of President Galtieri could cause another war. Not only was he the clown how took Blightey on but also the name of the Estonian footballer who scored against England famously after a mere 9 seconds of a 'friendly' match. Des Walker hasn't been the same ever since)

"THE TOUR" 2006 REVIEWED...

Okay, so things didn't go quite as planned. There was no game on the Sunday and the Monday game against Great Tew was scuppered only part way in by mother nature (rain on a Bank Holiday? Whoever heard of such a thing?) but at least fun was had and ale was quaffed aplenty on this annual booze and cricket fest known at the Tour.

On to cricket matters, Rob Morley kindly agreed to write up a match report of the 'sporting' activities of the trip and that he did. See below...

Sunday 29 May 2006 - Great Tew v BOTWCC Select XI

The game started early-ish at around 2.20pm and on a sunny dry hard pitch Mark Russell and Ross Deabil opened the batting.

Ross facing the 1st over and characteristically played himself in with some top padding away. The first 2 overs being maidens.

The first wicket fell at 21 when Ross got a full pie and tried to put it in cow corner and yorked himself (moo) .

The game went on with Brian Fisher in at 3 and was soon running 3’s even with his bionic legs, clearly worth much less than 6 million dollars.

Then the big black clouds started rolling in from the north west and the score was poised at 31 for 1 off 8 when Mark Russell got himself caught in the slips to a good ball, being drawn forward in to it.

Rob Morley was just going out to bat when a spit of rain was felt and the Great Tew boys said its going to hiss down , a nd off they ran to get the covers on. 30 sec's later all hell let loose. Hail, wind, rain and the curse of the number 4 bat struck again .

Rob turned dejectedly back to the pavilion and Tea was taken early, followed quickly by the plug being pulled on the game.

End of proceedings and an all too brief match report.

Rob Morley 30-5-06

**************************************

So that was it, sadly. Not even a quarter of a game played in 2 days, which probably suited a couple of the duffers and more seasoned drinkers at the club, but there is a vicious rumour being bandied around that there has been a return match planned for later in the Summer (whatever that is).

More info to follow if and when I get it.
