BOTWCC 2nd XI v Thornton St Peters
Saturday 2nd June 2007
Well guys and girls Saturdays game at home against Thornton match report goes like this
Rob Morley wins yet another toss and is informed by Steve Neal he’s at least good for something?
The skipper would have dearly liked to bat 1st as normal games with Thornton end up with Burton massing up a good score and bowling out the opposition for a mega total.
But as the top order seems to be having a lean time bowling 1st was always on the cards.
The new cherry went to Shippo senior and Ryan Dawson who got us off to a real flyer having Thornton losing wickets steadily.
Ryan bowling his first spell for 6overs 4 maidens 2 for 3runs.
Shippo bowling out at the other end for 2 for 20, Morley came on for another tight spell of 12 over’s
2 for 19 runs.
At one stage Thornton were 46 for 6. Enter 25 over syndrome. Being a seamer or two short some runs were scored a bit to freely from one end.
Enter the return of Ryan to the attack to bowl 6 more tidy over’s to take 3 more wickets to end on 5wkts for 31 runs. Well done Ryan is 1st ever five-for, let’s hope it’s one of many.
Thornton all out for 137 runs.
I forgot to say that Adam {frog} archer also bamboozled a Thornton wicket with a bit of blender bowling.
Well time to the batting or lack of it?
Well being on a high Dawson goes out to bat hitting a quick fire 15 only to get bowled by Sperry who had got into Ryan’s head having slared him during his bowling?
This, by the way, was a new revamped Thornton side with some real old bitter and twisted players now turning out for them one even tried to dig up the track in front of our grounds man Stevey Neal
Wrong move indeed.
Back to the batting. Still annoyed by the pitch abuse Neal holes out for 3. Stenning enters the arena with some stable steady batting, Tagg's bad run of form continues holing out at backward square leg for 1
Soon followed by Higgins then the skipper if he cut down on his pies would have probably made his ground being run out to a direct hit.
It’s looking bad for Burton at 40 for 6 in the 19th over enter Shippo senior left to bat with the under 15s and Adam.
From ball one Shippo plays his normal game which is to bosch the ball and Thornton start to wobble a bit. The over’s tick by, the runs go up and wickets dwindle until with about 5 over’s to go in goes the big ferret for the day known as the lastmanin Adam, Shippo keeps scoring and Adam keeps blocking and we end the innings on 126 just 11 runs short of victory Shippo not out for 65 showing
Some vintage form.
Well done John, a bowler top of the batting averages in the 2’s! Come on top order, time to start getting some runs or do you fancy a bowl??
