BOTWCC First XI v Leicester Caribbeans

Burton opened their 2008 account with a convincing win over the Leicester ‘Reggae Boys’ at Burton’s Towles Fields ground on a sunny Saturday afternoon.
Caribbean won the toss and asked Burton to post a target. The Caribbean’s opening attack allowed Burton’s openers, Moore and Freestone to play some handsome shots and set a first wicket stand of 53 before Moore holed out to deep mid off in the 19th over. A now confident Burton amassed a defendable target of 155 for 6 in their 45 overs with double figure contributions from most batsmen, Freestone (29), Fisher (27) and Blount (21 not out).
Caribbeans found themselves facing an accurate attack from Child and Penton, the latter removing both openers with only 4 on the board. But Millett and Khan took the game to Burton in playing some wonderful shots to all boundaries until Khan fired a full-powered bullet straight back to bowler Dunn, who took the catch in order to save his life. Millett followed shortly afterwards by attempting a maximum from the bowling of Morley. But could only watch in amazement as Dunn, running from mid on with the ball somewhere over his left shoulder performed the champagne moment of the match by taking a brilliant catch at deep long on. Caribbeans could not offer any further defence and collapse to 88 all out in the 28th over leaving Dunn and Morley with four wickets each.
