BOTWCC XI v Greenfields
Thursday 10th July 2008
Thursday night league finished last night when a strong Greenfields side just edged by us into the Play-Off position.
Greenfields included three BOTW old boys, Tom Moore & The Two Loveridge Brothers.
Greenfields won the toss and batted first on a lively track, Smithy and debut boy Tom Shipman tied up one end conceeding 37 runs between them in their 7 overs. Jack, Lanky and Treacle bowled from the village end with varying degrees of success. Jack being despatched into the playground three times in one over. The away team finished up on 110-4, Lanky 4-0-32-2 being our most sucessful 'chucker'.
Goose got our innings of to a flier with a single off the first ball and with Freaky slapping the next ball for two it looked as if we were on our way, but a mixture of good bowling and some very high bouncers saw both openers perish early on. Rob Dunn who was treated to a couple of beamers and Rich Stenning steadied the ship and waited until the change bowlers came on before stepping on the gas.
When Sid persihed off a rather high full toss for 41 we needed about 30 to win off the last two overs, depsite some big swings from Smithy we ended up 12 runs short and missed out on second place in the league.
Although 11 v 11 only 5 of the Away side actually took any real part in the game, with three of the four bats also bowling 10 overs.
Simmo, aka Goose, finally got on the six hit chart, six games, five innings, no NO's, 6 runs. Ave 1.20. All this despite having the highest average batting position of anyone in the squad. Goose, thanks for turning up.
Just the Colonel Mustard Cup to come, if it ever gets arranged.
