Whetstone v BOTWCC First XI

MATCH DRAWN
Match Report:
Following last weekends victory, Burton on the Wolds 1st XI travelled to Whetstone in confident mood this past Saturday hopeful of continuing the good start to the season. After winning the toss and electing to field on a slow pitch Burton's opening bowling attack of Smith (9-1-27-0) and Lang (10-2-24-2) were soon into their stride with a spell of controlled pace that the Whetstone batsman struggled to cope with. This was reflected with the score on 54 for 3 after the first 20 overs. The 1st change bowlers of Child and Dunn continued to apply the pressure with Child particularly impressive, putting in his best bowling performance to date in the 1st XI returning 4 wickets. It was only due to late innings surge that Whetstone managed to get past 100 with some mighty hitting from Patel (21) and Kurti (20) taking the score to a reasonable 126 all out.
Burton's reply started solidly with both Moore (20) and Debill (20) looking comfortable but finding scoring runs hard to come by due to tight bowling from the Whetstone attack and the slow outfield. Once they departed the rest of the Burton batsmen found it difficult to accelerate the innings and were always just behind the required run rate. Fisher (8), Blount (16) and Freestone (12) all tried to score freely but with wickets falling at regular intervals it looked likely that Burton were always going to be just short of the target. Despite a few lusty blows by Dunn (16) this proved to be the case with Burton's last pair seeing out the innings ensuring a draw but falling 13 runs short of victory, finishing on 114 for 9.
