Hinckley v BOTWCC 2nd XI

Saturday 30th August 2008

In a match of little significance to the Two's, Burton traveled to Hinckley to face a mixture of 1st and 2nd XI players needing the win to ensure guaranteed promotion. Not that it would have effected us, but if we'd beaten them like we did at our place then Burbage would go up and Hinckley would rather it be them. Not that we'd have a view on this, of course.

Still, things didn't start well as the skipper lost the toss and we were asked to bat. Things then got progressively worse and wickets fell quite cheaply throughout the innings. A very useful 47 from Mike Simmons and an impressive 33 not out from Dan Headley helped the cause, but too few came from anywhere else. The innings ended on 148 for 7.

The reply was short and sweet as the Hinckley bats (2nd teamers as it happened) went a-slogging from ball one. All bowlers were abused by the Hinckley attack and a heavy defeat was not too far away.

23 over in fact. Hinckley reached their target pulling a short one off Ali Love for 4 to the backward square leg boundary.

Ah, well. Well done to Hinckley who certainly deserved their promotion and here's hoping the Burton 2s make a bit more of an effort next season in all disciplines. Fielding has been especially poor this year.
