Burton travelled to the far reaches of Leicestershire on Saturday to meet Appleby Magna in the Senior League Premier division. Both teams have enjoyed some close games over the last few seasons so Burton were keen to claim a further victory in this very hard season in the premiership.

Once again, Burton lost the toss and were requested to set the target. Ross Deabill (4) and Gary Moore made a slow but steady start until Ross was adjudged caught behind in the 7th over. Gary and skipper Rob Dunn (3) struggled to push the score along until Rob perished in the same manner as Ross only three overs later. Ali Love (8) took his place and played some bright shots until he skied one to midwicket at the end of the 14th over.
Paul Blount (19) and Gary then steadied the ship and struggled through the troubled waters adding a further 48 runs before Gary was finally dismissed by sending a bullet to mid off straight into the hands of the waiting fielder. He had progressed to a fine 52. Ian Lang made a brief 5 which brought Geoff Aylett to the crease and it soon became clear of his tactics as he progressed to 42 not out from 35 balls. Paul Blount was bowled in the 41st over to leave Chris Langham (11 NO) to finish with Geoff, Burton finally totalling 168 in their 45 overs.

Appleby’s openers cruised towards their target at a steady pace until the 16th over when the first wicket fell to Geoff Aylett (32 – 1). Geoff opened the bowling with Ian Lang (28-0) but there was no more success for Burton for another 10 overs when Rob Dunn (35-1) trapped the Appleby skipper lbw on 47. Only three overs later Burton thought the game was turning their way when Malc Hood (32-2) removed two batsmen in consecutive balls. But that only brought together Duggins (39 NO) and Robey (46 NO) to see Appleby safely home with six overs to spare.

Next week Burton entertain fellow strugglers Leuva Patidar at Towles Fields.
