Whetstone v BOTWCC 2nd XI
Saturday 27th June
The Two's traveled to Whetstone to face a team whose season had been fairly erratic thus far, but knowing that these were the games you had to win, a good start was important. Which, it turns out, we got. Penton broke through on his 3rd ball while Tom Shippo bowled three very tidy maidens to kick start a very good fielding session by BOTW. And it pretty good it was too. The home team were bowled out in the 41st over for just 131. Penton got his first 5'fer since God was a baby, Shippo Senior got a couple and we may even have seen this seasons first Champagne moment as Ed E Stewart dived head first onto the pitch to attack a quick single and while still rolling fired the ball at the stumps and ran the fella out. Great work.
The second innings was, mostly, much less impressive. Custard came out to face the fairly quick Whetstone opener, but he was very wayward and Custard made hay while the sun tried to shine and fired off a very exciting 46, which included three 6's and five 4's. But that was pretty much all that happened. After Mark Russell (13) was caught of the tidy bowling of A. Quinn (who got a 6'fer), the wickets tumbled very quickly. And in the space of 13 overs, BOTWCC went from 63 for 1 to 82 all out. Shocking. Bloody shocking. We need to work on our shot selection guys, especially against a tidy bowler in his 60's whose probably been bowling for in excess of 40 years. He'll know what he's doing.
