Holidays, weddings and football once again took their toll on Burton’s team to travel to Huncote on Saturday. With Huncote positioned in the top half of the division, Burton were looking to add as many points as possible to their league total.
Huncote won the toss and decided to bat first. Their openers took to their task with relish, reaching 93 before Ian Lang made the initial breakthrough in the 19th over. Ian finished his excellent spell with 42 for 1. But, Huncote continued to pile on the runs at over 5 an over. By the time the second wicket fell in the 31st over the score had reached 169. Wickets now began to fall more frequently, but the score continued to rise rapidly. Huncote finished their 45 overs on 263 for 8. The other Burton wicket-takers were Rob Dunn (79 for 4) and Sam Shipman (59 for 3).
Burton’s reply started well with Gary Moore (17) and Geoff Aylett (20) putting on 47 for the first wicket, scoring at the required rate to reach the large target. Sadly though, Burton’s wickets started to tumble regularly. With only Paul Blount (13), Rob Dunn (20) and Ian Lang (22no) managing double figures, Burton managed to attain two valuable batting points before they were all out for 141 in the 37th over.
This being a double-header weekend, Burton looks to regroup for their travels to Bharat Sports on Sunday.
