Appleby Magna v BOTWCC 2nd XI
Saturday 22nd August
In what was always going to be another tough match at this business end of the season, Skipper Mark Russell lost the toss and we were put in to bat to face another onslaught.
And so it turned out. After 25 overs we were a painful 51 for 6. Another thrashing on the way.
Enter Nick and his Dad, Mark Southwell. What happened next was unprecedented in the Two's this year. A batting stand.
Nick and Mark batted solidly together for 15 hard overs and put on a very useful 75 runs before Mark (36) was bowled out. Nick (38) followed soon after having faced the same fate. Well done those two.
The only other notable score being from Kelvin Creasey (19) and after 45 overs BoTWCC were a defendable 142 for 9.
The 2nd innings was slightly more one sided than we'd expected though. One young lad by the name of J Nicholson was one with a keen eye. Very keen. This young lad knocked off 83 very easy runs in double quick time, while their captain at the other end stood firm and did little but farm the strike for the nipper.
Without wasting any more of your precious time, the youngster got out by mistiming one and popping it up to Rich Langham and that was the only wicket to fall, as the very next over the match was all done.
Well done with the bat guys, but we do have to work harder on bowling a tighter line and length or runs come too easy for even a half decent batsman, let alone someone like this lad.
