Sapcote v BOTWCC 2nd XI
Saturday 2nd May
It was an ideal start for the Two's newly crowned skipper Adam Archer, taking his band of brothers to sunny Sapcote for their opening venture of the season. This wasn't expected to be a very tough challenge for the start of the campaign, as the home team openly admitted, and so it proved.
Sapcote batted first and with Lanky and JC opening the bowling attack, resistance was minimal. Yes, Jack was slammed over his head to the boundary of his first ball, but that batsman perished in just the next over clipping one to Sonny behind the pins in just the 3rd over. (I think). And so the wickets tumbled.
A few (and I mean only a few) loose first-match-of-the-season-style deliveries were punished as you would expect but consistency was the key. All bowlers played a key part and took scalps at regular intervals as the home team's batmen slumped to a mere 69 all out.
As it's the first game of the season, we perhaps shouldn't mention the 4 dropped catches (and they were easy ones too) as that might detract from the clinical performance aside from that. We could mention that Jack took two and one of which was a real sphincter-winker off his own bowling. The ball made 'Angel Raping' status before it came back out of orbit and into JC's hands. (Ooh, the puns do come thick and fast don't they? Angels? JC? See the link?)
So, with 18 overs still possible before tea, Demi and Custard opened the batting and although the first few overs were slightly fiery on the lively pitch, both held their nerve well and moved quickly towards the finishing post target of 70. Both openers played some nicely timed shots with Custard clearly relishing his chance in an opening slot for the club. The two finally departed after the majority of the runs were already on the board leaving 'Dward Stewart and Sonny Warne to finish it off, the latter closing proceedings with a glorious 6 over the head of the bowler and out of the ground.
Tea was had at the pub by 5 o'clock.
Job done. Well done guys, it was a good team performance and lets now carry that on to next week's match at home to Sharnford. It will most certainly be a tougher challenge.
