BOTWCC 2nd XI v Sharnford

Saturday 9th May

MATCH STATS TO FOLLOW

In a game that started with such optimism after last week's walk-over at Sapcote, things did not go well for Adam Archer's 2nd XI.

Batting first, the Burton youth never really got going. Steve Neal and Custard Headley looked like they were going to make a decent start but it wasn't too long before we were proved wrong. Dan was bowled off a ball that would have been easy to defend had he been looking at it, and so the rot set it. Neal was caught behind trying to pull a short one, Warne was caught low to the ground after pinging one out of the middle of the bat, but straight to the fielder at mid off and that was pretty much it for the batting. The remaining bats were all clean bowled (8 in total) by some slow but accurate bowling by Sharnford. The innings ending in the 24th over with Burton all out for about 60 (TBC) despite a tiny flourish of runs from Jack and Treacle at the end.

No tea was taken, of course, as it was just too early and the second innings got going.

The Burton bowling attacked faired much better than the batsmen, and things got interesting for a while. Sharnford played some kamikaze cricket and wickets began to fall. But sadly, the total was just too small to have any reasonable chance to defend. The target was attained way before tea was due and although 5 Sharnford wickets had tumbled to some good work by JC, Treacle and Lanky, it was just too little too late for BOTWCC 2nd XI.

Still, there's always next week away at Hathern.
